What To Wear On Those Summer Weekends Away

July 11, 2012
By: Faye Smith

When you have finally booked off that specific weekend from work, and you have planned every last detail of your campsite/hostel/hotel as well as how you are travelling, and what tickets you need to print off etc. you might stop and think to yourself, there is one very important thing that I need to do, and that is pack! Cue the rush to the bedroom, more specifically the wardrobe, and wait as the manic begins. What to take? What to wear? Usually for us girls, a weekend away means a whole suitcase that is twenty kilos full (and overflowing). Don’t fret though, I have compiled the fashion necessities for the summer weekends away posted in my previous post Summer Weekends Away. You have to just remember the money and the tickets!

Camping

For a camp trip, you want comfort as well as style, which is why I’ve added the necessary jumpers, socks, and macs, and an umbrella (which is nice and bright). That way, when it starts to rain, you won’t be complaining of being freezing cold and wet because you will be warm and dry. Denim shorts are a favourite as they are easy to integrate into any look, and everybody loves them. A backpack is good to throw all your necessary items in such as your phone, ipod, keys, purse etc. and it is easy to just swing onto your back if you decide to go on a walk in the countryside.

Road Trip

Sunglasses, hats, and flats are an absolute must if you are the designated driver for this road trip! You, as the driver, especially need to feel comfortable for the long drive ahead. This is why I have included comfy Topshop leggings with an oversized soft (but chic!) Topshop jumper. And then, depending on what you get up to when you get to your destination, you have a casual option or a dressy option. You could grab a couple of chilled out drinks, or go on a proper girls night out. The outfits can be dressed up or down depending on your footwear and the accessories you choose.

Night at the West End

I admit, I went a tad overboard for this style bubble. There is a sophisticated outfit for the trip to the West End, another sophisticated outfit for a meal out with friends, and perhaps a night in a London cocktail bar. There are plenty around the West End. Plus, if your feet are aching from your heels towards the end of the night, and you don’t want to go back to the hotel yet, take a pair of these roll up shoes! They are made with women in mind. They will fit in your clutch, and you can whip them out if need be. They are available at most high street stores. Included also is a day outfit for the day you explore London with stylish flats to keep you comfortable all day long!

Party Time

If you’ve read the Summer Weekends Away post, you’ll already know what the gym clothes are for. If you do go on a girlie excusion courtesy of brillianttrips.co.uk, you will need some comfortable clothes for either a salsa dance class, or a pole dancing class. TOP TIP: If you do have a pole dancing class, it is always advised that you wear shorts, not pants, as it is easier to grip the pole. And why wouldn’t you want to wear these cute gym shorts from Topshop. There are plenty more so head to the website. After the dance class, you might feel a bit peckish, so I’ve added a casual daytime outfit that is cute to wear for lunch with your friends, or an afternoon of shopping. And, of course, there is a night out to look forward to with your friends! Wear bright colours to stand out, and get you in the mood for partying the night away!

Weekend in Paris

A weekend in the fashion capital means that you might have to do a bit of research! I’ve gone for the glam look if you choose to go out during the evening. This could just be for cocktails and a lovely meal, but us girls love to dress up whatever the occasion! For the day time, I’ve given you two options. One is more girlie than the other, and it all depends on your taste of style. Remember to accessorise your hair as well as your ears, arms and neck! For summer, floral hair accessories are all the rage! You will fit in with the romantic feel of Paris as you travel up to the top of the Eiffel Tower with a rose headband on. Don’t forget your sunnies and straw hat if it is a sunny weekend! Not only will it keep you looking a bit more glam, nobody wants to be squinting their eyes whilst trying to drink in the surroundings of Paris!

Barcelona Trip

Shorts, tees, sandals, and a few cool pieces of Topshop jewellery are perfect for walking down Las Ramblas. You don’t want to be taking wedges to walk through the roads. Going to Barcelona is for those who want to experience a bit of culture and end the day in a casual bar eating tapas and drinking sangria. This is why there are no ‘going out’ outfits in this part of the post. You will definitely need your sunnies and hat for the summer Spanish sun! For the daytime, take as little as possible and wear an over-your-body bag like River Island’s green one shown above. Barcelona is a beautiful city, but it is also known for pick-pockets, so keep your personal belongings where you can see them.

Camp at a Festival

If you are going to a festival this year, there is a special HerUni post all about the festival fashion that you can find here. It has all different kinds of style, and how to get that specific festival look.

Caravan Break

If you visit a caravan park, it is likely that a swimming pool will be there hence the bikini included. For the rest of the weekend, usually it is full of relaxation outside your caravan where you can curl up on the deckchair surrounded by your family. This is why this style bubble is a very casual one. I’ve included wellies because, (if it does rain) rain and mud do not go together, so you’ll need to save your feet. I’ve also included a few knits to keep you warm during the British summer evenings whilst you wait for your dad to finish flipping the burgers on the BBQ. A few Topshop tops to keep your fickle fashion head happy (as us girls always change our minds!). And a mac. If it rains, you won’t get drenched on the way back from the pool.

Party in Ibiza

I’ve split this into two as Ibiza is a pretty BIG summer weekend away, and if you are lucky enough to go to Ibiza, you will need a bit more structure for packing your suitcase. For the daytime, have a couple of bikinis and/or swimming costumes. Topshop and River Island have a huge range. River Island have even collaborated with Pacha which (as you all should know) is a massive club over on the White Island. Therefore, River Island is the perfect place to head for Ibiza style swimwear! For the evening, you can either glam it up, or go a bit more casual (as many young girls love to do abroad). Include a bit of bling in your accessories and you are good to go! Don’t forget your plane tickets!

All these ideas are just that, ideas. All the clothes come from the high street, mainly Topshop and River Island, and all items are available on the websites now.
