Skype: Bringing You Back To Humanity

April 6, 2012
By: Ashleigh Wight

Skype is a great tool for connecting with friends and family back home when you’re away at university. But is it better than every 21st century student’s staple Facebook and Twitter accounts? Skype seems to think it is.

Skype’s latest advertising campaign, which is reported to have cost $12 million, is based around the idea of it being a more ‘human’ way of interacting than it’s popular social media rivals. After all, how much emotion can you put into a 140 character Tweet?

The advertisements include the following captions, challenging the slightly impersonal nature of Facebook and Twitter:

“When did LOL replace the sound of laughter?”
“140 characters doesn’t equal staying in touch.”
“Upgrade from a wall post to a first class conversation.”
“No delays on human conversation.”

Skype is a great way of staying in touch with your friends and family all over the country and indeed, the world. There really is something special about logging onto Skype to see that your Mum is online and you can have a proper conversation with her, face-to-face and without the delay of Facebook notifications. It’s completely free too, so why not give it a try today? All you need is an internet connection and a webcam.
