Lingerie For Student Budgets

Our pick of three ladies’ lingerie looks that won’t break the bank.

Lingerie is one of the few consumer items which really does merit extra care, attention and cash. If you’re going to get something intimate and pretty, it better be of good quality. Comfort is extremely important when it comes to underwear – and this includes the fabric and texture of material as well as the cut and shape.

But how can you guarantee quality on a student budget? It’s easy to just think ‘get something cheap that looks quite pretty’; but, as we said, it really is worth getting a little bit more value for money when it comes to special underwear. We’ve been looking at some of the most student-friendly clothes shops online and doing some research into great deals and lingerie sections that won’t set you back more than £50.

Embroidery

A key tip for snapping up affordable underwear is to choose your fabrics wisely. Anything ‘satin’ that is under £50 for a set is not going to be satin; and it will snag. So instead go for meshes and embroidered or added details. Delicate embroidery is key to beautiful and elegant lingerie, no matter the price.

These non-padded embroidered bras from Next come in 2 packs – in contrast colours (pink and peppermint green; black and nude) and with 2-pack options for knickers too; thongs or the French-inspired half-shorts, which really carry the embroidery well.

Babydolls and nightwear

If you don’t really feel comfortable in a bra and knickers, then a babydoll  is a good way to go; it’s also extremely sexy, and, better yet, can go a long way towards covering over less special underwear with something really lavish and fun. These don’t have to necessarily include embroidery – but a little lace or mesh detailing is a good idea. The babydoll above is £24 – great as your one, low-budget, lovely lingerie purchase.

Lace

The classic lingerie fabric and so easy to wear; lace is especially good for non-padded or non-underwired bras, and is therefore a great option is you are a petite woman and don’t need too much support. Black lace looks elegant no matter the price tag; again, buying lace bras and knickers in 2 packs will get you two sets for under £30!
