The Duchess of Cambridge has once again wowed the world, becoming the first person to top a list of fashion ‘buzzwords’ for two years running, making her the most talked about figure in fashion.
Kate Middleton has taken first place in the annual Fashion Buzzword list, compiled by Texas-based Global Language Monitor, thanks to the popularity of the phrase ‘the Duchess Effect’, which is used to describe anything that Kate wears that goes on to sell out within a few hours.
“The Duchess Effect appears to extend much further than the economic impact of Kate’s fashion choices; this year the fashion landscape seems to be a brighter, more accessible place with the styles more colourful, feminine and graceful than we’ve observed in many years,” said Bekka Payack, Global Language Monitor’s Fashion Director, on their website.
The top ten also featured the term ‘Pippa’s Bum’, thanks to her sister’s appearance a the Royal Wedding last year.
The list was compiled from the top 75,000 print and online global media outlets, the blogosphere and from an analysis of words mentioned on the internet, according to the Daily Mail.

The Duchess has been seen wearing high street clothes to big events a number of times, seeing sales soar in her frequently chosen brand, Reiss. The demand for the £175 nude dress she wore to meet the Obamas (above) was so high, the Reiss website reportedly crashed.
Previously, Lady Gaga held the list’s number 1 position in 2010 and number 2 in 2011, but dropped off the latest list published on Wednesday.
