Explore the Adventurous Side of Manchester

August 14, 2012

As September fast approaches returning and new students will flood the streets of Manchester looking for a good time and somewhere they can enjoy their university experience. Manchester is one of the greatest cities for students, with streets packed full of bustling bars and packed nightclubs, Manchester has everything the typical student would need or want. However unlike most university cities, Manchester has another side to it and it is not just the art work, museums and shopping that this city can admit to, it is the extreme sports as well.

Manchester is a great city for all you adrenaline junkies, although unknown to most that live in the city, Manchester is one of the few cities in the country that host a wide variety of extreme sports. From Bungee jumping, to Motor Cross racing, Manchester is filled with sports to get your heart racing. In fact Manchester is one of only two cities in the UK to have an Indoor Skydiving experience at Airkix, located just across from the Trafford Shopping Centre.

Skydiving is on most university students Bucket List, however it is normally stopped in its tracks due to the high prices, that most modest student budgets cannot stretch too. However, thanks to Airkix you can gain the exact same adrenaline experience for a fraction of the price. The experience includes a full pre flight briefing, a helpful instructor and a certificate to prove your sky diving skills. Prices start at £29.99 for a 12,000 feet drop, so even students with the tightest of budgets have no reason to say no.

However if the idea of flying in the air fills you with dread, there are plenty of other activities you can take part in during your time in Manchester. The Chill Factore is home to the longest indoor snowboard, and ski slope in the UK. So, for those students who have just returned from their “Gap Yah” abroad, this could be the perfect way to ease you into the rainy and disappointing weather for which Manchester is famous.

So whether you’re returning to Manchester Metropolitan and are looking for something new to explore having been round a variety of the nightclubs and bars to satisfy your party animal ways, or you’re a new student who wants to explore every side of the city you’re about to live in, discover the adventurous part of Manchester, and get a few funny stories and pictures along the way.
