Hello, and welcome to the special place in HerUni reserved for you- the UEA student. Whether you’re a nervous fresher who is trying to get her bearings in the LCR, or a third year sweating over your finals in Congregation Hall, we hope that there will be something on this site to interest and inspire you, both as a student at UEA and as a young female living in Britain in 2012.
UEA is such an exciting and vibrant place to study, a university that is renowned not only for academia but for its forward thinking approaches to studying (not to mention an English and Creative Writing department that is celebrated the whole country over!) and the students here definitely reflect that. We mix intelligence and a desire for knowledge with challenging ideas, and on top of that, we’re pretty cool as well. There’s never been a better time to be a girl studying at UEA- the Feminism society won two awards last year, and women’s sports teams in pursuits like Rugby and Ice Hockey are going strong! On this site, you’ll find plenty of articles specific to UEA, as well as guides to what’s going on in lovely little Norwich- and like a cherry on top of a cake, we’ll handpick the best of the rest of HerUni for your perusal every week!
So, whether you’re planning on spending most of your degree in the library and want some light relief from all those essays, or whether you’re a hipster who plans to blow their entire student loan in the vintage shops of Norwich (I recommend Goldfinches), or whether you’re in a break from yet another lecture and just want to kill some time, we hope this is the place for you!
Enjoy,
Victoria
PS- We know that UEA is absolutely teeming with creative writing and journalistic talent so if you have any ideas for an article or just want to sound-off about something, drop me an email or tweet me @victoriafinan.
